Leigh began painting Tasmanian landscapes when he was 15.
He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in Graphic Design at the University of Tasmania.
He is a past Lecturer in Graphic Design at the University of Tasmania, and Head of Art and Graphic Design at St Michael's Collegiate School, Hobart. A three time Glover Art Prize finalist. He paints from his studio overlooking Hellfire Bluff and Maria Island on Tasmania's east coast.
